Kontract was created to solve a simple problem: small businesses often need contracts, but existing e-signature platforms are frequently designed for large companies with expensive monthly subscriptions.

After dealing with a payment dispute in my own small business, I realized how important it was to have clear written agreements. At the same time, I found that most document-signing services were far more expensive and complicated than what many freelancers, tutors, and small business owners actually need. Personally, I only needed to send a few documents each month — not pay for a large enterprise subscription.

So I built Kontract.

The name "Kontract" comes from combining "Korea" and "Contracts." My goal is to help increase trust between people by making simple agreements easier, faster, and more affordable.

I'm originally from Canada and graduated from Simon Fraser University's Beedie School of Business, where I studied Accounting Honours and graduated at the top of my class. I've been living and working in Korea for nearly 10 years, and I also operate a small English tutoring business working with children, adults, and professionals.

Running a small business has helped me understand the challenges that freelancers and independent business owners face every day. Kontract is designed for people like us — businesses that need practical tools without unnecessary complexity or high monthly costs.

Kontract는 단순한 문제를 해결하기 위해 만들어졌습니다. 작은 사업체에도 계약서는 자주 필요하지만, 기존의 전자서명 서비스 대부분은 매달 큰 금액의 구독료를 내는 대기업을 위해 설계되어 있었습니다.

제가 직접 운영하는 작은 사업에서 결제 분쟁을 겪고 난 후, 명확한 서면 합의가 얼마나 중요한지 절감하게 되었습니다. 동시에, 많은 문서 서명 서비스가 프리랜서·과외 선생님·소상공인이 실제로 필요로 하는 수준보다 훨씬 비싸고 복잡하다는 것도 알게 되었습니다. 저 또한 매달 보내는 문서는 몇 건에 불과했고, 대규모 엔터프라이즈 구독료를 낼 이유가 없었습니다.

그래서 Kontract를 직접 만들었습니다.

"Kontract"라는 이름은 "Korea(한국)"와 "Contracts(계약서)"를 결합하여 만들었습니다. 사람들이 더 쉽고, 빠르고, 부담 없이 합의서를 주고받을 수 있도록 하여, 서로 간의 신뢰를 높이는 데 도움이 되는 것이 저의 목표입니다.

저는 캐나다 출신이며, Simon Fraser University의 Beedie School of Business에서 회계학(Accounting Honours)을 전공하여 학과 수석으로 졸업했습니다. 한국에 거주하며 일한 지 10년 가까이 되었고, 아이들·성인·전문직 분들을 대상으로 하는 작은 영어 과외 사업도 함께 운영하고 있습니다.

직접 작은 사업체를 운영해 보니 프리랜서와 1인 사업자분들이 매일 마주하는 어려움을 좀 더 깊이 이해하게 되었습니다. Kontract는 바로 이런 분들 — 불필요한 복잡함이나 높은 월 구독료 없이 실용적인 도구가 필요한 분들 — 을 위해 만들어졌습니다.
